Nervous System Balance


In the practice of yoga, we do not prefer one system -- sympathetic or parasympathetic - over the other; rather, we strive for balance between the nervous systems.  

Stress resilience is about balancing these two systems. 

  • Stress-resilient people experience both types of activity ,“fight or flight” and “rest & digest”,
  • but they are able to de-escalate “fight or flight” when the task or stressful event is over and activate “rest & digest.”  
  • They experience a fluid flexibility between the two systems.




Most of the things we do in our daily life can lead to imbalances in our bodies and minds.   Taking time to release tension and let go of everyday stress is essential to promoting health and wellness. 

Restorative yoga helps to balance the nervous system, counteracting the effects of  chronic stress.
